Santa Cruz

Friday, March 24th, 2006

Amy and I have found a new home… the beachtown of Santa Cruz, CA. [Map: far / close] We have a great 2b/2ba condo 6 blocks from the Pacific Ocean, overlooking downtown. After searching Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, and Palo Alto, we found Santa Cruz to be a wonderful blend of a relaxed lifestyle, and great bars, shopping, and restaurants. Of course, this means I have a commute to the Si Valley area… but it’s through a mountain pass — how cool is that! I can’t wait to start surfing in the town that started it all.

I spent the last two weeks in Santa Clara, CA representing my new employer AccuRev at both SDWest and eclipseCon software conferences. They were both a great turnout and I got to meet a ton of total tech folks. I heard Erich Gamma and others give a talk about IBM’s new ‘Jazz’ software development suite based on the eclipse framework. I also talked with the krazy kats from RIT who wrote and currently maintain RadRails. I’m definitely looking forward to being out West…

Funny story… I met some contributors to both the Gnome and KDE projects. Blah blah blah right click… blah blah.. left click. It was fun to taunt them with my mouseless window manager efficiencies. Ok, they ARE great projects. But I can’t stand using a mouse. Go wmii.
