e-garage sale

Happy New Year.

It’s been a while as I’ve been on holiday and spending time with friends and family.

Can selling items on Ebay be any easier? I’ve managed to offload old Xbox games, DVD’s, and technical books. So far, I have a $200 profit! Back in the day, my mother would post signs for a garage sale and we’d spend the day before marking items with tags and a ballpoint pen. We’d spend a full 2 days only to end up with a net profit of $50-$100. So far, I think I’m only 25% finished with the stuff from my closet.

Interestingly, I’ve found a few collector’s items. My hardcover copy of E.F. Codd’s “The Relational Model for Database Management: Version 2″ is going for $200+ !! I also have a hardcover copy of Albert Lyon’s “Medicine : An Illustrated History” that is selling New for ~$250. Both of these books, in excellent condition, have been sitting in a closet for years!

While I think collecting items can be fun, at this point in my life I think long term investement in mutual funds is a better way to spend my money. Back to selling so I can fund my retirement….
